General Maintenance Technician The Quaker School at Horsham Horsham, PA 19044 The Quaker School at Horsham (TQS) is seeking a General Maintenance Technician. This is a campus-wide, full-service position focused on repair and maintenance of all building systems under the direction of the Assistant Business Manager (ABM). Key duties include, but are not limited to, general maintenance and labor, walls, floors, masonry, locks, keys, life safety systems, painting, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and light electrical. On occasion, the position will be called back to work for emergency maintenance. The shift/hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid break

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The General Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in achieving enrollment goals for the school.
Core responsibilities include:
- Carries out daily work orders as assigned for building systems and preventative maintenance work. Willingly accepts feedback from the Assistant Business Manager in order to improve performance.
- Duties include general maintenance and labor to perform repairs; demolition or installation that addresses campus requests and needs, including meetings and special events; participation in project renovations; hanging campus banners and holiday items, delivering or picking-up equipment or parts, moving furniture, repairing and installing window shades and screens, removing and installing carpeting and cove base, patching concrete, hanging classroom audio and visual projectors, and preparing and cleaning before or after floods or other emergencies.
Cleaning up infectious bodily fluids (such as vomit, etc.) and accidents in student restrooms.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of fire alarm systems. Perform monthly inspection of fire extinguishers. Can identify and resolve trouble with sprinkler systems and emergency lighting systems. Schedule annual inspections for alarm and fire extinguishers.
- HVAC – Forced hot air, window units, ductless systems and chillers, Monitoring for problems, regular maintenance (cleaning, changing filters, etc.)
- Basic plumbing. Able to troubleshoot and resolve clogs of sanitary systems.
- Represent TQS to contractors; must be cordial, respectful, helpful and cooperative in attitude and manner to the community and to other staff members and managers. Accompany and guide vendors to and around campus as needed to perform scheduled or annual service or survey inspections for the school.
- Patch, repair and install plaster, drywall, spackling, floor tiling & other flooring. Painting – Wall coatings/coverings and other items. Replace locks, door hardware and keys.
- Responsible for maintaining receipts for purchases made on credit cards; submitting proper documentation for purchases and reimbursements.
Requirements:
- High school, G.E.D or trade school diploma.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the repair and maintenance areas of educational and residential environments.
- Maintain all required clearances.
- Experience in all facets of buildings systems as required in duties and responsibilities above.
- Working knowledge and understanding of local and national building and safety codes.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Ability to work in a service-oriented environment, subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Track and work within multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Licensed to drive school vehicles, completing all required documentation. Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- Essential staff during reduced operations.
- Ability to move around campus on a daily basis for extended periods.
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, elevated platforms and rooftops.
- Ability to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl several times a day throughout the week.
- Able to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Work responsibilities regularly require that operational activities exist both indoor and outdoor, night and day, in various conditions that offer all temperature and humidity ranges.
- Depending on departmental staffing needs, this position may be required to change the shift/hours based on the needs of the school.
- Available for “Call Backs” at night, holidays and weekends.
