Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is a skilled individual contributor who plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective maintenance of buildings, mobile equipment, stationary machinery, and existing systems, for advising and making recommendations to management with respect to these activities. Coordinates with the plant manager and coworkers to meet project requirements, deadlines, preventive maintenance schedules, cost objectives and safe working practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Repair production equipment by replacing, repairing, or fabricating parts. Fabricate/maintain bins, hoppers, conveyors, rollers, and track pulleys. Assist with design layouts for material handling systems. Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions. Dismantle machines and equipment to access and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools. Use blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs, as necessary. Document / maintain preventative maintenance requirements and performance of both mobile and stationary equipment. Service mobile equipment per recommended hour schedule. Plan maintenance projects in accordance with production schedules, customer schedules and availability of parts and/or materials. Communicate all pertinent information on maintenance activities and problems. Conduct daily inspections of the plant equipment and operations to evaluate the maintenance and safety conditions and correct malfunctions and deficiencies. Coordinate with the Plant Manager to schedule all maintenance downtime to avoid major production and or shipping delays. Help maintain the proper use, care, maintenance, and appearance of all physical assets and production equipment in the plant, including maintaining a high degree of housekeeping.
Perform routine maintenance such as:
Inspecting drives, motors, belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters and other required maintenance. Inspect, change filters, and monitor gauges of baghouse / dust collectors. Maintain conveyors, change rollers, track pulleys and splice belting. Inspect the dryer, test thickness, temperature, and trunnions. Perform minor electrical repairs. Knowledge of 3 phase electric required. Follow company work and safety rules and practices and established guidelines. Perform miscellaneous projects as assigned. Maintain shop inventories (fluids, filters, grease, spare parts for P/E and M/E). As needed, assist production which may include: Material handling, stacking bags. Operate a forklift, front end loader, bobcat and manlift.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent 5 years of diversified experience in responsible maintenance jobs. Proficiency with MIG, TIG and stick welding, using a cutting torch. Experience reading blueprints and using appropriate measuring devices. Technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment and electrical knowledge. Able to stoop, kneel, push, pull, twist and lift/carry up to 70 pounds, enter/work in confined spaces, climb ladders/unafraid of heights up to 45 feet., walk on uneven surfaces/unpaved ground. 20/20 vision with corrective lenses if necessary. Able to use personal computer to research parts, equipment, etc. Must be able to pass background check, physical and drug screen.
