JOB SUMMARY

This position performs general maintenance on all city facilities and assists with landscape maintenance in public green spaces and rights-of-way. Conducts field supervision of Maintenance Division projects and personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with facility maintenance activities and projects. Performs sidewalk maintenance and repair. Coordinates right-of-way, city facility, and streetscape landscape maintenance. Performs irrigations system maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Assists with landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weedeating, fertilizing and spraying on City property and rights-of-way. Operates heavy equipment to include backhoe, mini-excavator, and tractor. Trains and provides leadership to employees. Works on special projects as assigned. Cleans and maintains equipment. Schedules equipment maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience in carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical trades and irrigation / landscaping maintenance & repairs. Any combination of education and experience totaling two (2) years may be considered. Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical practices landscape maintenance techniques. Knowledge of concrete construction and repair techniques. Knowledge of irrigation system operations and repair. Knowledge of safety practices involved in municipal facilities. Knowledge of local, state and federal safety policies and procedures. Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and associated diagnostic equipment. Ability to operate weedeater, edger, chainsaw, brush cutter and lawnmower. Ability to perform heavy lifting. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. SAFETY Employee is responsible for adhering to all safety procedures and regulations established by the Department, the City and all State and Federal organizations. Any safety concern should be reported to a supervisor immediately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed outdoors with constant exposure to dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, insects and inclement weather.
