The Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing maintenance duties at the parks and athletics facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, fertilizing and spraying on City property and rights-of-way. Cleans and maintains equipment. Performs maintenance duties to include electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry work. Operates heavy equipment to include backhoe, mini-excavator, and tractor. Performs irrigations system maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Performs basic maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning fixtures, and replacing air conditioner and heating unit filters. Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed. Observes all safety practices and maintains a safe work area. Serves as back up to co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years’ experience in facility maintenance, to include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Any combination of education and experience totaling two years may be considered. CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire. Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and basic carpentry work. Knowledge of basic landscaping work. Knowledge of safety practices involved in maintenance. Knowledge of irrigation system operations and repair. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Ability to operate weed eater, edger, chainsaw, brush cutter and lawnmower. Ability to use hand tools, to include saw, hammer, screwdriver, wrench, voltmeter, and power tools. Ability to operate front end loader, backhoe, tractors, and lawnmowers. Ability to perform heavy lifting. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to multitask.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. SAFETY Employee is responsible for adhering to all safety procedures and regulations established by the Department, the City and all State and Federal organizations. Any safety concern should be reported to the supervisor immediately.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed indoors and outdoors with constant exposure to noise, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, insects, and inclement weather. Employee may be exposed to a variety of maintenance equipment and chemicals.
