Job Description
SummaryThe purpose of the Hatchery Maintenance Mechanic is to maintain and repair the hatcherys varied equipment and facility systems, ensuring safe and efficient incubation and processing.
Principal and Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspects and repairs 34 setter incubators and 34 hatcher incubators, ensuring performance within OEM specifications
- Monitors and records environmental conditions inside incubators, as well as all chick-holding areas, and reacts promptly when parameters are outside specified ranges
- Inspects and repairs all facility HVAC equipment ensuring optimum performance
- Precise air temperatures, pressures, and humidity levels are necessary to the incubation and hatching of broiler chicks, thus effective HVAC maintenance is absolutely critical
- Inspects and repairs a variety of chick processing equipment systems, which includes, but is not limited to shell separators, tray washers, chick counters and conveyors, and sexing carousels
- Ensures the proper operation of these systems to keep downtime to a minimum
- Maintains minimum stock levels of critical equipment parts ensuring operating interruptions are kept to a minimum
- Orders parts and equipment at competitive prices, ensuring maintenance budgets are adhered to
- Should be proficient in at least nine (9) of the following areas
- Reading blueprints/schematics
- Cutting/Welding
- Hydraulics
- Pumps
- Electrical wiring and motors
- Filter systems
- Pipe fitting/plumbing
- Operation of shop equipment
- Millwright
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Refrigeration systems
- Pneumatics
- Carpentry
- Certified ElectricianMinimum EducationHigh School or equivalent.
2 or 4 year technical degree is preferred.
Experience Requirements2
- 4 years experience.
Experience PreferredLicensing in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and/or Welding is preferred, but not required. Must have a strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes. Plumbing and welding experience are also desirable.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Position is active. On the plant floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine
- May need to move equipment occasionally
- May need to access files, supplies and equipment
- Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities
- When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity
- May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit
- May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility
- Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
