Area Description:
The Field Operations team is responsible for the installation,maintenance, and repair of residential and small business services.
Within GFiber’s Field Operations, the Plant Maintenance teamsupports wired and wireless customer installation and networkconstruction leading to the growing and maintaining of GFibernetworks.
Role Description:
As a Senior Outside Plant (OSP) Maintenance Technician, you willfocus on the installation, repair, and maintenance of the GFiberphysical plant in the Distribution Network. You will diagnose andcorrect all service impacting root causes from the central office,remote terminal, or hut location to the customer’s premiseequipment. You will assist vendor partners to develop expertise inthe installation, maintenance, and repair of outside plant (OSP)while continuing to provide coverage for downstream portions of ournetwork infrastructure. Technical Expertise:
Network Troubleshooting:
Ensure continuous residential and smallbusiness services by identifying and resolving service-disruptingissues spanning from the central office to customer premiseequipment within the GFiber network. Diagnose and correct issues with outside plant (OSP) networkconnectivity, including drop cabling, network interface units,patch panels, media cabinets, and Optical Network Terminals(ONTs). Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to inside wiring (fiber,ethernet, coaxial, and twisted pair cabling), powering systems(including backup power, UPS, etc.), and network devices (mediagateways, modems, routers, switches).
Network Infrastructure:
Install, restore, or maintain aerial andunderground cable plant. Install and test Ethernet jacks, make cross connects in telecomspaces, and perform installation/construction duties, maintenance,and troubleshooting of cabling and network devices.
Customer Service:
Navigate complex customer interactions with exceptional clientservice, professionalism, and thoroughness. Communicate effectively with internal colleagues and externalcustomers. Cultivate relationships with property managers and building ownersthrough advanced technical knowledge, effective communication, andcollaboration.
Teamwork and Leadership:
Execute operational processes and procedures with attention todetail. Foster a culture of continuous learning by collaborating with teammembers to achieve proficiency in troubleshooting complex issuesaffecting network connectivity and inside wiring.
Additional Responsibilities:
Ability to work non-standard working hours, including nights,weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, and be willing to traveldomestically up to 10% of the time. At a minimum we’d like you to have: 5 years experience in Fiber to the Home (FTTH)/ Gigabit PassiveOptical Network (GPON) network construction and/or fiber networkdeployments. 3 years of experience in fiber splicing for both termination andmidspan use cases, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) andPower Meter fiber optic testing. 3 years of experience managing relationships with contractors andvendors of varying types and sizes. Experience with physical layer components of networkinginfrastructure, including twisted pair copper cabling (Category 5or greater), 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, fiber opticcabling, etc. Valid driver’s license. Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs of equipment as required. Ability to pass a motor vehicle record check that meets companystandards. Ability to work non-standard working hours as needed includingnights, weekends, holidays, and differing work rotations/shifts aswell as 10% domestic travel. It’s preferred if you have: Experience interfacing with local pole owners and utilitycompanies, coordinating with city/local permitting offices, andsubject matter expertise in outside plant Fiber to the Home (OSPFTTH) deployments with experience in service dropinstallations. 3 years of experience with fiber to the business-to-business(B2B)/Enterprise level fiber network construction/operations. Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related torouters, switches and hubs. Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server stanchions,telemetry closet work (MPOE, DMARC, etc.), and patch panels. Ability to safely operate bucket vehicles that elevate up to 25feet above ground. Ability to operate Google Workspace and Salesforceapplications. The US base salary range for this full-time position is between$65,000 – $72,000 + bonus + benefits.
