Nutrition and Cafeteria Department of Nutrition Credentials:

Valid Tennessee Driver’s License.

High School Diploma or GED Other Qualifications:

Technicians may include but are not limited to individuals who have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: kitchen equipment, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, or motor mechanics.

Physical Demands:

The person in this position must have and maintain the intellectual, sensory, emotional, and physical abilities necessary for the effective and safe performance of duty; be a safe driver; be able to occasionally lift and carry objects which exceed fifty (50) pounds and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. This person must be able to drive a variety of vehicles, push, pull, stoop, kneel, reach, grasp, talk, hear, climb and crawl; work in extreme temperatures; tolerate dust, chemicals, and other substances and environmental conditions associated with maintenance work; be emotionally mature, able to work cooperatively, cope with stress appropriately and abruptly change tasks in a composed manner. The individual in this position may be required to report to work on an on-call basis in situations in which the school system is otherwise closed. This decision will be at the supervisor’s discretion.

Essential Job Functions:

The Maintenance Technician for Nutrition and Cafeteria is responsible for performing the work necessary in their respective area of expertise. Job functions include but are not limited to: 1. Maintaining, repairing, and occasionally installing commercial kitchen equipment, including both reach-in and walk-in refrigerators and freezers, ice machines, ovens, dishwashers, steamers, and other commercial kitchen appliances. 2. Identifying any possible issues and address them to prevent potential breakdowns. 3. Diagnosing and repairing malfunctions related to the cafeteria area and equipment, including, electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration issues. 4. Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, plus any related manufacturer warranties or specifications related to the equipment. 5. Inspecting and servicing all kitchen equipment and relatable equipment regarding the cafeterias and nutrition department. 6. Observing all safety rules. 7. Assuming primary responsibility for the safe condition of all equipment or structures in area of expertise. 8. Helping maintain an effective preventive maintenance program for area of responsibility. 9. Following all purchasing guidelines for area of responsibility. 10 .Entering any newly purchased tools or equipment into inventory. 11. Keeping work area clean and orderly. 12. On-call responsibilities, which may require responding to urgent matters outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. On-call duties are considered part of the essential functions of the role. On call assignments are not subject to additional compensation. 13. Performing other duties as assigned.

Staff Relationship:

Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Terms of Employment:

Twelve (12) months, hourly rate and benefits set annually. Exempt.
