Cable TV Technician
7 Frankford Ave, Anniston, AL 36201, USA • Anniston, AL, USA Req #7340 Monday, May 5, 2025 GC&E Federal is seeking a Cable TV Technician The candidate for this position will work within our team to support our government Information Technology (IT) program with our Anniston Army Depot client.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Perform annual preventive maintenance services.
Align and balance all forward (outbound) amplifiers.
Balance all forward amplifiers to achieve optimum performance levels and replace defective components as necessary.
Check branch line terminations for proper signal levels and replace any component that does not meet system specification for end of line level response.
Perform radiation tests and correct any part of the system that does not comply with FCC Specification 76.605,
Check headend input levels and replace components as necessary to achieve proper level response into headend equipment.
Perform a network sweep of frequency response for all forward amplifiers.
Align all forward amplifiers to achieve the optimum flatness response within the bandpass on the Cable Plant. The Contractor shall make corrections to the network as necessary on any system mismatch caused from impedance-related problems.
Sweep branch lines to all terminations to achieve optimum flatness within the forward bandpass.
Check the outlet (drop) levels. The Contractor shall check a minimum of 20 of the installed outlets for proper levels at both the high and low forward frequencies.
Test carrier-to-noise, hum modulation and AC/DC voltage. During the alignment and balance procedures outlined above, take forward and reverse carrier-to-noise measurements. This testing measures the amount of unwanted noise that exists in the forward band passes.
Make corrections as necessary to meet acceptable system noise levels as defined in equipment manuals.
Test hum modulation to determine the percentage of AC modulation to the RF carriers on the system.
Check all amplifiers for proper AC voltage into the amplifier’s power pack. The Contractor shall then check DC voltage to determine the power pack’s output voltage to the active circuitry of the amplifier.
Test, align, and set levels on all status monitoring modules and associated amplifiers and modems.
Perform semiannual inspections.
The Contractor shall:
• Complete a semiannual inspection six months from the date of completion of the previous semiannual inspection.
Perform a level and frequency response test on 10 percent of all installed drops.
Visually inspect all outside cable and components for mechanical or electrical defects, to include removal of covers/Attachments from taps, feeds, and so on to ensure tight, non-corroded connectivity of amplifier feed points.
Correct all deficiencies found.
Visually inspect and clean all Cable Plant components and related interface equipment. If any deficiencies are found.
Inspect and clean all batteries located at the 18 power supply sites. Four deep-cycle marine batteries at each site provide emergency power in the event of an electrical power outage. The Contractor shall clean and preserve battery Attachments and test all battery backup systems under loaded conditions to ensure proper operation is maintained.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance of the Cable TV Plant, to include cleaning, adjusting, lubricating, inspecting, and testing procedures designed to reduce product failure and/or extend the useful product life. The Contractor shall complete preventive maintenance inspections on 1/12th of the Cable TV Plants on the installation per month. At the end of each 12-month period, the Contractor shall have inspected 100% of the Cable TV Plants on the installation. If the base period or any option period contains less than 12 months, ensure 100% of the Cable TV Plants are inspected during that base or option period.
