The RF Cable Harness Repair Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing RF (radio frequency) cable harnesses used in high-frequency electronic systems. The technician ensures all repaired assemblies meet precise specifications and industry standards, including proper shielding, impedance control, and low insertion loss. This position requires hands-on technical expertise with RF connectors, coaxial cable types, and soldering or crimping techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, test, and diagnose issues in RF cable harnesses, assemblies, and interconnect systems. Perform precision repairs on RF cables (e.g., semi-rigid, flexible coax) and connectors (e.g., SMA, N-type, TNC, MMCX). Re-terminate and rework cables using appropriate methods (soldering, crimping, heat shrinking). Utilize RF test equipment (e.g., VNA, spectrum analyzer, TDR, continuity tester) to verify functionality and performance. Interpret and follow detailed wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation. Ensure all repairs comply with applicable MIL-SPEC, IPC/WHMA-A-620, or customer-specific standards. Maintain accurate records of repairs, test results, part usage, and work completed. Collaborate with engineers and QA personnel to identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements. Support inventory tracking and organization of cable and connector components.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in electronics or RF systems preferred. 2+ years of experience in RF cable assembly, wire harness repair, or electronics rework (medical or telecom environment preferred).
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in RF cable types and their applications (e.g., RG, LMR, MIL-C-17). Skilled in the use of precision tools (strippers, crimpers, torque wrenches, microscopes, etc.). Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and MIL-STD workmanship standards. Ability to read and work from blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
Soft Skills:
High attention to detail and manual dexterity. Strong problem-solving and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and within a team in a cleanroom or lab environment.
Working Conditions:
Work performed in a lab or controlled production environment. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, and handle small components with precision. Occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs. May require certification for soldering or ESD-safe handling depending on project requirements.
