Responsibilities:
Operate Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) equipment, particularly Ditch Witch, to install underground utilities, including fiber optic cables, conduits, and pipes in accordance with project specifications and safety standards. Working knowledge of HDD drilling techniques and procedures, including locating, bore planning, drill rod management, and understanding of drilling fluid systems. Utilize HDD equipment to dig trenches, bore underground paths, and backfill trenches/holes, ensuring precision and adherence to project requirements. Conduct daily maintenance checks on Ditch Witch and other HDD machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent equipment breakdowns.
Perform Cable Pulling duties:
Pulling, routing, and termination various types of cables, including fiber optic and cable cables in outdoor environments, set handholds and proof Perform general labor tasks such as cleaning and preparing construction sites, loading and unloading materials and equipment, and erecting and dismantling scaffolding and temporary structures. Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors, ensuring all HDD operations are executed safely and efficiently. Assist skilled tradesmen and other crew members in their duties related to outside plant (OSP) construction and HDD operations. Ensure a clean and safe work environment by adhering to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project safety plans. Interact professionally with customers, trade partners, and suppliers/vendors, maintaining a positive and professional attitude on the job site. Perform other maintenance duties as they arise, such as equipment troubleshooting, site cleanup, and support activities for HDD and OSP construction. Responsible for daily job site clean-up, ensuring that all equipment and materials are properly stored and secured.

High School/GED Experience:
2-4 years of relevant job experience, particularly in HDD operations and heavy equipment handling. Experience specifically with Ditch Witch HDD equipment is highly preferred.
Skills & Requirements:
Previous experience in fiber and copper cable installation Physical strength and stamina to operate HDD equipment and perform physically demanding tasks; ability to lift 50 lbs. Preferred Knowledge of Ditch Witch HDD equipment, drill rig operation, and various HDD drilling techniques. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and demonstrating a positive, can-do attitude. Open to direct instruction and constructive feedback to improve skills and job performance. Flexibility for changing tasks and assignments in a dynamic work environment. A willingness to learn new skills, attend technical training, and adapt to evolving construction technologies. Pay rates and benefit levels are determined by union classifications which are set by the union.
