Service Manager Summary Function as a skilled level technician who is able to diagnose and repair in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair. Essential Duties Include but not limited to the following; Perform work as outlined on a repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with the dealership and factory standards. Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs. Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts. Order parts prior to tear down whenever possible. Save and tag parts on a job if under warranty or if requested by the customer. Maintain a professional work ethic regarding all assigned jobs. Exhibits professionalism at all times. Advise service manager of progress on all jobs. Advise service manager of completion time of assigned jobs. Furnish repair order hard card with complete and accurate write up. Park truck in assigned spaces when a job is completed. Remove keys and bring to service office. Punch time cards according to warranty requirements. Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further work is required or recommended. Communicate with service manager and/or service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed or if repairs cannot be completed within be time promised. Review work order with parts department prior to closing it to ensure that all parts and misc. items have been billed out and that cores to be removed, have been removed and returned to the parts department. Document all work recommended and performed on the repair order. Road test vehicles when required. Participate in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools and events. Participate in all safety meetings. Keep current manufacturers technical bulletins. Report machinery defects or malfunctions to service manager. Ensure that the customers’ trucks are kept clean. Notify service manager immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle. Keep shop areas neat and clean. Maintain proper attire (uniforms). Responsible for any company issued tools and/or manuals and their like condition. Understands, keeps current, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-know, etc. Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Report any safety issues immediately to management. Maintain safe work environment. Maintain a professional appearance. Works with a “sense of urgency” attitude and promotes a “team approach” among all employees. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience Successful completion of a diesel technician program at an accredited institution or sufficient experience working on heavy and/or medium duty trucks and diesel engines. A high school diploma or equivalent is recommended. Prior experience in a heavy and/or medium duty truck dealership is preferred. Language Skills Must have the ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with management, customers, vendors and other employees. Mathematical/Computer Skills Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Must have prior experience working with computers and have the ability to function in an electronic environment. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have a valid Louisiana Commercial Drivers License within six months of hiring. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. He/She will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Will also spend much time moving throughout the service shop. Will climb ladders, in and out of trucks, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and lift.
