Diesel Mechanic Job Description:
A municipality in Ayer, MA is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join its Public Works Department. This role involves maintenance and repair of a fleet of vehicles and equipment, as well as general upkeep of the town garage. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-motivated, and capable of working independently under general supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, including engine overhauls, brake systems, clutches, suspensions, and electrical systems.
Maintain and operate a preventive maintenance program; record all repairs and services performed.
Repair small power equipment such as mowers, compressors, and jackhammers.
Order parts, manage inventory, and assist with developing vehicle specifications.
Participate in snow removal and sanding operations during winter months; respond to emergency road operations when needed.
Follow safety procedures, maintain a daily activity log, and update the department’s computerized maintenance system.
