JOB SUMMARY To assist Fleet Technician II andFleet Technician III in providing safe, reliable and cost-efficientvehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenanceinspections and repairs as well as learning to diagnosis and repairas required to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle downtimeand improve total fleet reliability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn toperform required inspections and preventive maintenance under theguidance of fleet technician II & III or fleet manager on vehiclesand equipment to maximize the safety, reliability, and costefficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
- Learn toperform FAI/CVI (Annual) (First Article Inspection
- CommercialVehicle Inspection) inspections on all fleet vehicles includingtractors, trailers, converter dollies, light-duty vehicles, and anyother company-owned equipment under the guidance
- of fleettechnician II & III or fleet supervisor or manager in accordancewith all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies.(Includes all state-required inspections and frequencies).
- Learnto perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per companymethods under the guidance of fleet technician II & III, fleetsupervisor or manager on all fleet vehicles including tractors,trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, light-duty vehicles,
- andany other company-owned equipment.
- Learn to perform qualitymaintenance repairs under the guidance of fleet technician II & IIIor fleet supervisor or manager as required to maximize safety andreliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers,converter dollies, lift-gates, light-duty
- vehicles, and anycompany-owned equipment.
- Learn to perform maintenance repairs onall vehicles under the guidance of fleet technician II & III orfleet supervisor or managers such as inspections, scheduledrepairs, malfunctions and road-call repairs in a safe, efficient,timely and quality
- manner.
- Address all driver vehicleinspection report write-ups timely, efficiently and correctly thefirst time under the guidance of fleet technician II & III or fleetsupervisor or manager.
- Diagnose cause of any malfunction andperform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but notlimited to engines, transmissions and clutches, drive-line,differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system,exhaust systems
- (including regeneration systems), intake systems,electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems and lift-gatehydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems under the guidance offleet technician II & III or fleet supervisor or manager.
- Followprocedures including documenting all work performed on work orderusing complaint, cause, and correction format under the guidance offleet technician II & III or fleet supervisor or manager.
- Learnand develop efficiency in Sysco computer programs under theguidance of fleet technician II & III or fleet supervisor ormanager
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Medium/Heavy Duty trucktechnical training 2-year school (preferred)
- l High schooldiploma or equivalent required Experience
- No experience required
- Current and valid driver’s license (CDL Preferred) ProfessionalSkills
- Basic knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems andcomponents
- Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair ofelectrical systems on all equipment
- Basic knowledge and skill inwelding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
- Basic computerskills and knowledge Qualifications
- Technicians must own andprovide all tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided bySysco) necessary to perform all maintenance inspections, repair anddiagnostics.
- Apprentice will have performance reviews regularlyto determine areas of improvement and areas that require additionaltraining and development
- Annual Inspector CertificationKnowledge, Skills and Abilities (Preferred, Not Required)
- BrakeInspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Preferred,Not Required)
- ASE certifications
- Automotive or Medium/HeavyDuty Trucks (Preferred, Not Required)
- 609 HVAC Certification(Preferred, Not Required)
- Working knowledge of computer-baseddiagnostic software for OEM’s and component manufacturers
- Apprentice will be required to complete Sysco SIU training modulesfor safety and other required courses. Physical Demands
- Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularlyrequired to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reachwith hands and arms, talk and hear.
- The employee is frequentlyrequired to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit and must frequentlylift and/or move up to 100lbs.
- The employee is Repair workrequires excellent hand and finger dexterity used for wrenches,hand tools, and other shop equipment.
- Specific vision abilitiesrequired by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability toadjust focus Working Conditions
- While performing the duties ofthis job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot,extreme cold and/or humid conditions; and moving mechanical partsand may be required to work in confined spaces.
- The associateworks non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights,weekends, holidays and on-call.
- The associate may occasionally berequired to travel to other operating companies or the corporateoffice as business needs dictate (i.e. training, businesscontinuation, etc.).
- The associate is occasionally exposed tohigh, precarious places and confined spaces.
- The associate isoccasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- The noiselevel in the work environment is usually moderate.
