Position Summary:

A Penske Refrigeration Technician willdiagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor truckand trailer equipment with the primary focus on all refrigerationunit maintenance equipment designed for commercial trucks andtrailers.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Perform all levels ofmaintenance services, with the primary focus on all refrigerationunit such as Carrier and/or Thermo King commercial refrigerationequipment designed for commercial trucks and trailers.
  • Be able totest lines, components, and connections using electrical,mechanical and pneumatic test equipment
  • Read complex schematicsassociated with the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Road test vehicles whennecessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they areworking properly.
  • Perform duties with little or no supervisionand in a timely and efficient manner
  • Use hand tools such asscrewdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precisioninstruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches,lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Provideadditional support regarding preventative maintenance and tractortrailer maintenance as required by location management
  • Inspectand verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformanceto factory specifications.
  • Other projects and tasks as assignedby supervisor
Qualifications:
  • 6 years practical experience withtractor trailer maintenance required
  • High school diploma orequivalent required
  • Vocational/Technical or certificationpreferred
  • Specialized training and experience in the overhaul ofrefrigeration components required
  • ASE Certification preferred
  • 608/609 certifications preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of allnecessary tools of trade required
  • Current CDL license with airbrake certification preferred
  • Basic computer skills includingMicrosoft Word, Excel, Outlook required
  • Ability to work in anon-climate controlled environment is required
  • The associate willbe required to understand and comply with specific instructions,guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established byPenske management
  • The associate must be able to perform all workadhering to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenancepolicies; including but not limited to the correct selection anduse of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and establishedbest safety practice.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is anessential function of the job
  • As this position requires drivingPenske and customer vehicles, it is regulated by the DOT andrequires a current driver qualification file to be maintained asrequired by the role.
The driver qualification file includes:

anannual motor vehicle records (MVR) check, a successfully completedDOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records request fromprior employers in the last 3 years. Additionally, CDL holders willhave a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and subject to aFMCSA Clearinghouse review.

  • Willingness to travel as necessary,work the required schedule, work at the specific location required,complete Penske employment application, submit to a backgroundinvestigation (to include past employment, education, and criminalhistory) and drug screening are required.

This position isregulated by the Department of Transportation or designated assafety sensitive by the company, and the ability to work in aconstant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.
