Full Job Description Position Overview:
Our Client is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Protection & Control Technician 2 to support the maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical protection and control systems. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability and safe operation of electrical infrastructure, particularly in underground distribution networks. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with protection relays, circuit breakers, and advanced testing equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance and inspections of protection and control (P&C) systems to ensure system functionality and reliability. Conduct testing, calibration, and functional verification of protective relays, circuit breakers, and related devices. Diagnose and resolve faults within protection and control systems through advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Configure and program protective relays and control devices to ensure proper operation and fault response. Support relay coordination studies to ensure protection systems minimize unnecessary outages and operate correctly during faults. Analyze data from protection systems to detect abnormalities, performance trends, and potential risks. Assist in system upgrades, modernization efforts, and integration of new control technologies. Maintain compliance with electrical safety standards, codes, and best practices in all work activities. Document maintenance, testing, calibration, and troubleshooting activities thoroughly and accurately. Collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and operations staff to support field and control room operations.
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 1 year of experience maintaining and testing electrical protection and control systems, ideally in the utility or power generation sector. Proficiency in the use of advanced electrical testing equipment (e.g., relay test sets, oscilloscopes).
Strong knowledge of:
Protective relays and relay logic Circuit breakers and trip units Control systems and relay coordination principles Familiarity with relevant software tools for analysis and relay coordination. Solid understanding of electrical safety procedures, compliance standards, and interlock systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented approach. Effective communication and teamwork skills.
