190 Days Job Summary The Power Equipment Technology Teacher will develop the curriculum and provide instruction for the Career and Technical Education CTE classes. The class will teach students about repair, maintenance, and technology in outdoor power equipment industries to include lawn equipment, motorcycles, outboard/marine equipment and other recreational vehicles. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on instruction, prepare students for future careers, and maintain a safe and engaging learning environment. The instructor must also maintain good public relations with related businesses and industries, maintain an active advisory committee, cooperate with outside agencies and supervise and follow-up on students participating in cooperative education. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED Demonstrated work experience as an outdoor power equipment repair technician. Minimum of 4 Years of Work Experience Required Must qualify for a SC CTE Work based Induction Certificate Experience working with high school age students and diverse student populations; preferred

ASE Certification:

Outdoor Power Equipment Technician Certification or other applicable certifications preferred. Courses in power equipment technology preferred Able to use or learn Microsoft Office Products and other technologies for the classroom Such alternatives to the above qualifications as district administration may find appropriate and acceptable Essential Duties Deliver high-quality instruction on automotive and outdoor power equipment systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, steering/suspension, fuel systems, and diagnostic tools. Develop and deliver automotive and outdoor power equipment systems repair curriculum based on key learning objectives, utilizing best practices and various technologies to deliver instruction Create a syllabus which includes key learning objectives, class norms, attendance and grading policies, work habits expectations, a calendar of due dates for class assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, etc. Develop authentic, engaging, hands-on learning projects to meet learning objectives Develop assessments which track the effectiveness of teaching and learning Develop classroom work habit expectations and grading incentives, tracking system, etc. Maintain online attendance and grading on a timely basis Develop and implement plan to improve attendance rates to meet SC-CTE goals Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals, host at least two advisory committee meetings each year Participate in high school and CTE staff meetings as well as professional development opportunities provided through the district and the SC-CTE Consortium Work with SC-CTE and administration to obtain necessary materials and resources Participate in student CTE organizations, workshops and competitions (SkillsUSA, etc.) Take part in promoting and marketing the program to meet enrollment goals Communicate with students’ high school counselors and administration concerning academic, attendance, or discipline issues which affect a student’s learning and/or grades Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detailed and team-oriented, and have excellent communication skills Must stay current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline taught Ensure safety protocols are followed when working with tools and machinery. Manage and maintain lab equipment, tools, and classroom resources. Provide students with real-world applications of learned concepts.
