The Inspector Operator will inspect, troubleshoot,and perform switching operations on all electric substation,transmission, and distribution facilities; reports switching ordersand reporting abnormalities in real time to the Electric SystemOperator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reduce outage minutes by respondingto electric transmission and distribution outages on a 24/7 basisand performing inspections for preventative maintenance in order toreduce the total number and severity of outages. Additionally, actas a liaison and advisor to contractor and customer owned devicesas well as other equipment. Responsible for maintaining records ofand instructing relevant staff on all new distribution equipmentincluding distribution automation equipment. In emergencysituations reports to TVA transmission operator to performswitching operations and assess equipment on Bulk Electric Systemat the 500KV level. Meets with contractors and commercial customersin regard to their privately owned electric equipment. Performsswitching operations for other departments to perform maintenance,repairs, and installations. Performs protective grounding ordersfor relevant crews to perform maintenance and repairs. Assess andtroubleshoot facilities during outages to the system operator andperforms remedial action as directed. Perform tests to collectelectric current data with a hot stick and high voltage glovesduring abnormal operation. Racking in/out of cubical breakers inmetal clad switchgear. Instructs other departments on the use andoperation of new or seldom switched distribution equipment. Assessequipment and facilities after substation break-ins and acts as asafety barrier for security personnel and the first on scene tocoordinate with the fire Department. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS A
validdriver’s license from state of residence is required. EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) isrequired.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in electricaldistribution/construction is preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Mustsuccessfully pass Switching Test, complete Placement/PerformanceExercises, and have knowledge of Basic Electricity. Must be able todistinguish colors. Subject to 24-hour call. Must haveoccupationally significant knowledge of substation numberingsystem, transmission and distribution equipment functionality,knowledge of distribution automation equipment, and establishedgrounding procedures.
Physical Demands:
Requires sedentary workinvolving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10pounds or more of force on a regular basis.
