Customer Care Job Statement Responsible for promoting and providing company products or services in a variety of locations. Primary duty is to turn on and off electric, gas and water services at the customer’s request or due to past due bills. Ability to recognize signs of any unauthorized use of electric, gas, or water. Must possess excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to deescalate hostile situations. Essential Duties Must be able to read and safely operate electric meters and properly test all types of voltage. Turn on and off water and gas meters. Collects or cuts off delinquent utility accounts. Completes meter orders by accurately coding and recording electric, gas and water readings. Re-reads utility meters accurately as necessary. Reports any unauthorized use of electric, gas, or water. Disconnects any active meter when deposits have not been made. Assists with account verifications and audits as necessary. Must be able to handle complex customer problems and take the necessary steps to meet the customer’s needs while using discretion and independent judgment. Reports gas and water leaks. Additional Duties Accounts for all field collections and service orders on a daily basis. Collects contract apartment applications and deposits and various off-site payment boxes throughout the service area. Assist with re-reads in the Meter Reading Section as needed. Assists during power outages as needed. Reports and/or handles any unsafe condition pertaining to electric, water or gas services and meter equipment. Exercises extreme care while on customer’s property to ensure good customer relations. Handles and reports all customer complaints courteously. Promotes customer goodwill. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Education/Training/Certifications:

High School graduate or equivalent is required. Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics preferred.

Experience/Skills:

Must have a three (3) years’ experience in meter reading, construction or basic electric required. Knowledge of Huntsville Utilities service area preferred. Work experience in outside environment preferred.

Equipment:

Telephone, two-way radio, manual shift vehicle, personal computer, Xplorer unit, and voltage tester.

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:

Ability to work outside in inclement weather (if necessary) up to eight (8) hours a day. Occasional light lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Routine office follow-up and documentation. Must be able to work 2nd shift and be available for on call.

Other:

Must possess outstanding customer service and decision-making skills and the ability to be tactful in handling controversial situations in potential unsafe environment. Excellent driving record and maintain a valid Driver’s License. This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
