Full Job Description SUMMARY:

Performs all tasks involved in cleaning sewer lines, manholes and lift stations. Responsible for the care and maintenance of all tools and equipment used in cleaning operations. Assists in assembling appropriate suction tubes and nozzles and/or high-pressure nozzles to remove unwanted grit and debris in lines. Assists in the operation of mobile equipment to clean sanitary lines and works with the Field Services Supervisor to assist Data Collection, Stop Up, Lift Station and Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Teams to remove blockage in lines. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule. Attend all seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include, but are not limited to the following: Assists in operations of mobile equipment to clean sanitary lines and works with the Field Service Supervisor to assist data Collection, Stop Up, Lift Station and CSO teams to remove blockage in lines. Works in various hazardous environments in the treatment plants, lift stations and throughout the service area. Assists in assembling appropriate suction tubes and nozzles and/or high-pressure nozzles to remove unwanted grit and debris in lines. Assists in maintaining safe operations such as traffic control set up and safety equipment by placing safety tape and cones as required. Assists in transporting and dumping collected wastewater and grit at an approved location. Assists in daily inspection and maintenance of equipment. From time to time, this employee may be called upon to perform other duties as deemed necessary by his supervisor. Must be able to read and interpret maps, drawings and operating instructions. Confined Spaces Entry, Entry of manholes and other tight spaces.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. A minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or technical training working on sewer construction projects, or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds required. Ability to read and interpret utility maps and drawings required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers Permit within six months of employment and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of employment required. Must be able to obtain Fort Benning Access required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school graduate of GED is the minimum requirement for position. One-year related experience and/or technical training working on sewer construction projects or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to receive certification in Confined Space Entry, Traffic Control Set-up and Flagging within one year of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand operating instructions, safety procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic drawings, etc. Ability to communicate directions to subordinates in order to get job done. Ability to receive and follow directions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and read all graphs types.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Driver’s License and good driving record CDL license within one year Flagger, OSHA-Confined Spaces within one year
