The Field Service Calibration Technician provides high-quality asphalt, soil, and concrete calibration services to the materials testing laboratories, both in-house and on-site position serves as the first point of contact for customers regarding specifications, operation, and service of our products. Training is provided. This position requires approximately 80% travel with the majority being overnight travel. Around the world, InstroTek equipment is used for accurately and reliably measuring and testing materials. The responsibilities of the Technician include but are not limited to: Provide calibration and service of laboratory testing equipment used in the Soils, Aggregate, Asphalt, Binder and Concrete testing industries, both in the field and in-house, as needed to meet our customers’ demands. Complete all calibration related documentation in a timely manner. Uphold the level of quality and integrity to the standards set forth by management. Perform new equipment installation(s), set-up, and operational training for customers, as needed. Communicate effectively with customers, team members, sales personnel, and management. Ensure inventory levels are accurate and sufficient for upcoming work. Provide technical support on the phone, through e-mail, written correspondence, and in person in accordance to standards set forth by management. Respond to customer support tickets in an expedient manner. Inspect and test equipment and machinery for function, quality, and adherence to specification(s). Troubleshoot, diagnose, and determine action(s) required to correct equipment malfunction(s) Perform repairs and preventive maintenance to laboratory testing equipment in field and in-house environments. Develop new and maintain current customer relations via on-site visits. Maintain tools and calibration equipment in good working condition. Plan and schedule travel, hotels, vehicle rentals, etc., necessary for travel to field locations, while adhering to established budgetary guidelines. Follow up with customers to ensure customer satisfaction with work that has been performed. Provide assistance, guidance, and training to team members of lesser experience and technical knowledge. Adhere to the highest safety standards at all times, utilizing the appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Maintain company vehicle in good working order at all times, according to established guidelines. Assist with general production and shipping needs when in the office. Comply with ISO and A2LA standards and procedures. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace and shop area at all times. QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of experience in field service, equipment calibration, or repair—preferably with laboratory testing equipment used in construction materials (Soils, Aggregate, Asphalt, Binder, Concrete). High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in electronics, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with hands-on experience servicing complex instruments and systems. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; able and willing to travel frequently, including overnight stays. Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, hand tools, and calibration equipment. Competency in using computers and software applications for documentation, communication, and reporting. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and specifications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer Proficiency with the use of service ticketing systems, email, documentation software, and common office applications. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in both field and office environments. Technical Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, with a strong understanding of laboratory testing equipment used in the Soils, Aggregate, Asphalt, Binder, and Concrete industries. Calibration Experience with the ability to perform precise calibrations in accordance with ISO 17025 and A2LA standards. Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills to effectively identify and resolve equipment malfunctions in both field and in-house settings. Strong Documentation Skills with the ability to complete service and calibration reports accurately and in a timely manner. Mechanical Aptitude with the ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex laboratory instruments and machinery. Customer Service expertise with strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with customers during on-site visits and remote support. Verbal and Written Communication Skills to clearly convey technical information to customers, teammates, and management. Training and Mentoring Ability to support and guide less experienced technicians in their professional development. Inventory and Resource Management skills to monitor parts usage and ensure adequate stock levels for scheduled work. Time Management and Organizational Skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage field service schedules, and meet deadlines. Adaptability and Flexibility to adjust to changing work demands, travel schedules, and customer requirements.. Understanding of Safety Protocols and the ability to consistently apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices. Self-Motivation and Initiative to work independently and make sound decisions in the field with minimal supervision. Travel Readiness with the ability to plan and manage all aspects of travel for field service assignments, sometimes on short notice. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 80% travel. Travel can be up to 3 work weeks away from home, home on the weekends and in the office 1 week a month. Valid Drivers License and eligible to be insured Work may involve lifting and moving equipment (up to 80 lbs.), extended periods of standing, walking, bending, or kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Continuous sitting when driving.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Hours:
Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility required to accommodate customer needs, including early starts, late finishes, or occasional weekend shifts. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including laboratories, industrial facilities, construction sites, and customer locations, as well as in-office and shop environments. Frequent travel required, often regionally or nationally, including overnight stays and occasional weekend work. Potential exposure to noise, dust, extreme temperatures, and hazardous materials, depending on the site.

Must adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times in accordance with company and customer site requirements.
