We are Jenkins Electric, an electro-mechanical repair company based in Charlotte, NC, since 1907. Jenkins has focused on finding solutions and fostering excellence in electro-mechanical repair and testing. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to join our Hydro Division. This role is responsible for on-site installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hydroelectric equipment and systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and the ability to travel to customer sites across various locations.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities Perform mechanical and electrical inspections, maintenance, and repairs on hydroelectric turbines, generators, and related systems. Assist with the installation, alignment, and commissioning of hydro units at customer sites. Troubleshoot equipment failures and provide timely, effective solutions. Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, manuals, and schematics. Communicate with customers about job status, repairs, and recommendations. Complete service reports, documentation, and follow-up tasks. Adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with industry standards. Education and Skills High school diploma or equivalent Strong mechanical aptitude Ability to work independently Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills Ability to travel 75% of the time Proficiency in programming languages is a plus Firsthand experience or familiarity with machine shop operations, CNC machines, and manufacturing processes is a plus Experience with embedded systems and real-time operating systems is a plus. Work Environment Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights Exposure to loud noises Ability to lift to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Ability to take direction from the field supervisor Additional Eligibility Requirements Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Coachable and receptive to firsthand training from experienced team members. Maintain a cheerful outlook and professional, courteous relationships with co-workers. Consistent attendance record with a willingness to work overtime as needed. Team player, positive & engaged contributor to the team, willing to learn & adapt to business needs. Proud of our history.
