Job Title:

Civil Construction Operator Non-Exempt Exact Stormwater Management is a founder led, growing company with an important mission. We protect Virginia’s waters by installing erosion control measures, liner and containment solutions, bioretentions and other stormwater management practices. Our work also includes installing pattern pavement and pavement preservation. Headquartered in Midlothian and focused in Virginia, we make an impact throughout the southeast. Job Summary The Civil Construction Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery and equipment to assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and buildings. This role involves ensuring machinery is in good working condition, following safety protocols, and performing tasks that contribute to the successful completion of construction projects. This position is responsible running small earthwork jobs including installation of bio-retention facilities, underground detentions, pavers and containment work. The role crosses over with our Stormwater Maintenance Division which may include work not requiring equipment.

Operate Heavy Machinery:

Safely and efficiently operate various construction equipment including excavators, backhoes, loaders, high reach forklift, skid steer and graders. This position requires strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance working in an open, outdoor environment. The applicant must be able to perform labor required of the job including the ability to: lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and work safely in extreme weather (hot & cold).

Perform Equipment Inspections:

Conduct regular pre-operation and post-operation inspections of machinery to ensure proper functioning and safety. Assist in

Construction Tasks:

Support various construction activities including grading, digging, trenching, material handling, use of construction tools including jackhammers and trench tamping equipment. Manual labor activities are part of the role. These tasks include but are not limited: to hand digging, string trimming, operating a vac trailer, reworking rip rap.

Follow Safety Procedures:

Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe operating practices.

Read and Interpret Blueprints:

Understand and interpret construction blueprints and plans.

Maintain Equipment:

Perform basic maintenance tasks on machinery, such as lubricating, cleaning, and making minor repairs. Report any significant issues to the maintenance team. Collaborate with

Team:

Work closely with other construction workers, supervisors, and project managers to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks. Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline oriented.

Complete Documentation:

Accurately complete daily logs and other required documentation related to machinery use, maintenance, and project progress. Experience in Service Fusion, Contractor Foreman and Microsoft Office Suite functionality.

Manage Material Loads:

Handle and transport construction materials as required, ensuring proper load distribution and secure placement.

Qualifications Experience:

Minimum four years of experience operating heavy construction machinery in civil construction projects.

Certifications:

Valid Virginia operator’s license or certification. Additional certifications in safety training (e.g., OSHA) are a plus. Valid drivers license (required), CDL A Driver’s license (strongly suggested) Eligibility to work in the United States and approved by Everify.

Skills:

Proficient in operating a variety of construction equipment. Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations. Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and plans. Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, work in various weather conditions, and operate machinery for extended periods.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Specialized training or technical certification in construction equipment operation is advantageous.

Work Environment:

Construction sites, which may include exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and other environmental factors.
