Heavy Equipment Technician A well-established company in Cantonment, FL is looking for a full-time Heavy Equipment Technician to join their team. The Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs on light to heavy machinery and light duty to heavy trucks, including loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and other construction and landfill vehicles. Under the supervision of senior maintenance staff, this role provides hands-on experience in equipment upkeep while ensuring that machinery operates efficiently and safely
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections on heavy equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, such as checking and changing fluids, changing filters, greasing components, and inspecting tires and tracks.
- Assist with maintaining equipment, maintenance logs and records, documenting inspections and any repairs or maintenance activities.
- Under supervision, perform minor repairs and adjustments on machinery, such as replacing worn parts, fixing leaks, and adjusting mechanical components.
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues, identifying problems, and implementing corrective actions to keep equipment running efficiently.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols while performing maintenance tasks to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
- Report any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to senior maintenance staff.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with relevant environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with cleaning equipment and tools after maintenance tasks to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Keep the maintenance area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary tools and supplies.
- Work closely with experienced maintenance personnel to gain hands-on experience and develop skills in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to improve technical skills and knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Help track maintenance schedules and ensure that all equipment is serviced according to manufacturer recommendations and company guidelines.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school or one year of experience in a fleet maintenance position working with working with automotive, diesel, and/or heavy equipment repair.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License
- Knowledge of small engine repair techniques
- Knowledge of light, medium, or heavy equipment or automotive maintenance and repair principles and practices
- Knowledge of applicable tools and equipment of trade
- Knowledge of diagnostic devices utilized in identifying vehicle and/or equipment malfunctions
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Knowledge of reading and comprehending technical repair manuals
- Knowledge of using applicable tools and equipment of trade
- Knowledge of maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment
- Knowledge of detecting and diagnosing vehicle and equipment malfunctions
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Positions in this class typically require the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.

- During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situations and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned
