Position Summary:
The Apprentice Mechanic is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, and servicing of construction vehicles and equipment used in paving and site work operations. This is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on experience and skill development under the direct supervision of experienced mechanics. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities included but not limited to: Comply with (and actively promote) all safety policies and procedures, including reporting accidents, incidents, and near-misses, to uphold the company’s Number One Core Value – Safety first, in everything we do.
Assist mechanics in performing diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a variety of equipment, including pavers, rollers, skid steers, trucks, and trailers
Learn and apply proper techniques for oil changes, filter replacements, tire repair, lubrication, and fluid checks
Support in inspecting equipment for wear and damage and reporting findings to the supervisor
Help maintain accurate service and repair records
Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
Assist with loading/unloading parts and tools, and organizing inventory
Operate company vehicles and equipment under supervision and with appropriate training
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and training programs
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a Technical College or recently graduated
Basic mechanical knowledge or experience working with tools and machinery is a plus
Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced technicians
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors
Must be dependable and have a strong work ethic
Valid driver’s license
