$23.00 – $46.40 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY This position serves as the Lead Heavy Equipment Technician for the Aviation Department, responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, fire apparatus, heavy construction machinery, generators, and other specialized automotive equipment. In addition to technical duties, the Lead Technician provides mentorship to team members, assists leadership with managing workflow, and conducts quality control checks to ensure all completed work meets established standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Under the general supervision of Equipment Shop Leadership, perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Airport transit buses (both diesel and electric), cars, trucks, and aviation-specific equipment. This includes replacing and rebuilding components to manufacturer specifications and fabricating or designing parts as needed. 2. Monitor work requirements, including fleet shop personnel and tools, and report directly to shop leadership. 3. Conduct quality diagnostics to ensure repairs are performed efficiently and effectively. 4. Assist other technicians in a collaborative team environment. 5. Provide guidance and direction to technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge. 6. Respond to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints professionally and promptly. 7. Research and identify correct part numbers and components, placing orders as necessary. 8. Provide detailed status updates to customers and shop leadership through clear and accurate work order notes. 9. Maintain direct communication with shop leadership regarding ongoing shop activities and workflow.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of methods, tools, and materials used in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair. In-depth understanding of engine operating principles and mechanical components. Strong commitment to safe working practices and compliance with hazard communication standards. Ability to diagnose defects and execute complex mechanical repairs independently. Proficiency in performing calculations and shop arithmetic related to maintenance tasks. Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate work records and routine reports. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. High proficiency in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials related to automotive repair. Computer literacy is required. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:

No minimum level and Five year(s) of relevant experience; or High School diploma or equivalent and 3 year(s) of relevant experience

Preferred:

Post-secondary education in a related technical field is preferred. ASE certifications and certification for the dispensing and recovery of A/C refrigerant are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse skill set and be proficient in gasoline and diesel engines, as well as battery-electric and high-voltage drivetrain systems.

Physical Requirements:

This is a physically active job requiring manual dexterity, physical strength and the ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance, and the ability to manipulate heavier weights up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Physical activity may include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Exposure to noise, heat, dust, cold, fumes, uneven surfaces, chemical substances likely, and adverse weather conditions.

Touch Hearing General Information:

Required, Valid Class B CDL driver’s license with passenger endorsement. If candidate does not have

CDL, CLT

Airport will provide training. Candidate will have one year to obtain CDL from the date training begins. Certain convictions within a 10-year period would prevent unescorted access and therefore deny employment. Vehicle Maintenance Facility offers heated and cooled work area with good lighting and other facility amenities
