Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Farm Shop Mechanic to maintain, repair, and service farm equipment, vehicles, and machinery. This role is critical to ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our farm operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of agricultural or heavy equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Inspect, diagnose, and repair farm equipment, including tractors, loaders, milking equipment, and specialized machinery. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, hydraulic system checks, and filter replacements. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues. Weld and fabricate parts as needed for repairs and modifications. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the farm shop. Track inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to ensure availability for repairs. Collaborate with farm staff to schedule maintenance and minimize equipment downtime. Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in an agricultural or heavy equipment setting. Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. Ability to weld and fabricate metal components. Familiarity with farm equipment brands such as John Deere, Case IH, or similar. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Valid drivers license (CDL preferred but not required). Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions.

Occasional driving may be required for part and/or equipment pick-up and/or drop-off.
Position Type & Expected Hours:
Part-time, approximately 20-30 hours per week based on business needs. Some weekend or evening availability may be required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the essential job functions for this position, the employee is regularly required to: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting are required throughout the shift. Regularly required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of heavier items may be required. Work is performed both indoors in a shop environment and outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Exposure to dust, grease, farm odors, and loud machinery noise. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary for safety. Must be comfortable working around large animals and heavy equipment. Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Clear vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
