Position Summary
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration instructor is to support the College’s mission and underlying principles by providing quality instruction in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration classes that align with the needs of the College’s service area. Planning, teaching, reporting, recordkeeping, student recruitment, student advisement, job placement, follow-up, and equipment upkeep are integral parts of the teaching position.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Teach 30-35 contact hours or 15-16 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or abination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.

Regular and consistent attendance at work.
Prepare and maintain current course syllabus according to the College’s guidelines.
Instructor must be available to teach in day, night, weekend classes to include training, ground, online, virtual or hybrid.
Attend training opportunities as needed.
Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with industry standards, local and state plans of study and curriculum guidelines.
Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which arepatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students.
Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
Coordinate apprenticeships, internships, and Co-op with Industry to include tracking and maintaining records on student progress.
Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty, with mastery knowledge in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration
Prepare and maintain program budget.
Maintain lab equipment and supplies
Maintain equipment inventory.
Prepare program course offerings schedule for each semester and term.
Develop and evaluate Student Learning Oues (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
Collaborate with Construction Technology Division to develop and implement divisional goals.
Good knowledge of institution’s program of studies related to mission, goals andanization.
Update and revise courses in collaboration with faculty, department chair, and dean of career technical education, and when appropriate, the advisorymittee.
Maintain contact with business and industry and other potentialemployers.
Hold Industry advisorymittee meetings twice a year and maintain meeting records.
Recruit students into program and advise throughpletion.
Serve on divisional, institution, and state-widemittees as appointed.
Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate amodation for identified students.
Maintain and conduct scheduled office hours for student conferences.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING

Associate Degree in

HV-ACR, OR

equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
Three (3) years of documented full-time experience as a technician
Proficient withputers

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS

Documentation of an industry-recognized credential earned or in progress (

Preferred Qualifications:

EPA Refrigerant, ESCO Proctor Certification, NCCER)

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

Good written and oralmunication skills.
Computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, and online documentation)
Ability to effectively respond to questions from supervisors, faculty, staff, students and the general public
Must pursue industry-recognized credentials as determined by the College (examples: OSHA 10

  • hour construction certification, OSHA 10-hour general industry certification, NCCER Instructor Certification, NATE (North American Technician Excellence HVACR certifications, NOCTI HVACR, or Alabama Board of Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Contractors license, DET (Duct and Envelope Tightness) Certifications.

Ability to travel as required by the College
