HVAC MECHANIC JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL
To provide skilled work in the remediation and cleaning of mechanical A/C components and air distribution systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years’ experience in remediation and cleaning of mechanical air-conditioning components and air distribution systems. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of electrical systems providing electrical power to the air-conditioning systems. Knowledge of the equipment used to perform the remediation and cleaning necessary. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the trade. Ability to gain access to areas requiring remediation and cleaning. Knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding lockouts/tagouts of electrical and plumbing control devises. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of components and an ability to perform some typical repairs/replacements such as belts, filters and insulation. Ability to work at various heights to complete necessary jobs. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain access to the mechanical components of air-conditioning systems and perform remediation and cleaning of these components, including but not limited to evaporator coils, fans, housings and ductwork.. Perform all tasks with safety in mind and use proper lockout/tagout procedures to perform the duties assigned. Prepare recommendations and notices necessary for other departments to follow-up to keep the air-conditioning systems from requiring early replacement due to poor maintenance. Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information. May be required to return to work when problems are encountered on off-shifts and weekends. Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Lead/Manager in a timely manner. Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties. Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee regularly is required to lift, hold, carry, sit, stand, walk, climb crawl, bend, stoop, apply finger dexterity, grasp, feel, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and rely on visual acuity. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Safety is the highest priority.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
