Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services invites applications for the position of HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic. This position is unique to the University as it works alone 60% of the workweek, which results in exercising independent judgment. The majority of duties include standard HVAC routines along with fulfilling emergencies as requested. This position performs damage control and completes repairs in preparation for the next crew. Having a working knowledge of electrical and plumbing operations is necessary.
This position works rotating 10-hour shifts as follows: Week 1: Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Monday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Tuesday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Wednesday OFF
Thursday OFF
Friday OFF
Week 2: Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Sunday OFF
Monday OFF
Tuesday OFF
Wednesday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Thursday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Friday 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Candidates must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Southeastern requires a Type IV, Universal Certification. Please note that Southeastern will allow the candidate selected for the job up to 30 days to acquire the required certification.

Current Salary:

$21.05/per hour
This position includes a shift pay rate of $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM while on this shift.

EXAMS, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course
Appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Southeastern requires a Type IV, Universal Certification. Please note that Southeastern will allow the candidate selected for the job up to 30 days to acquire the required certification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience or training in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
