Facilities Management Warren Wilson College is seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join the Facilities Team. In this role, the technician will play a crucial part in creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment for our students, faculty and staff. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the HVAC Technician will monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems, perform preventative maintenance, and handle tasks based on priorities and annual workflows. The position involves a significant amount of time working with, training, and supervising a crew of student workers to assist with HVAC work. We are looking for a detailed oriented individual with a strong commitment to high-quality work and effective communication skills. This position requires some evening and weekend hours, and occasional on-call duties. CFC/EPA certification.
Two years of professional experience with HVAC.
One year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge of proper chemical usage and safety precautions.
Models professional behavior and positive work attitude.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with no restrictions.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from a diverse range of identities and experiences. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree or certificate in HVAC.
Three or more years of professional experience with HVAC certification.
Two years’ supervisory experience, preferably supervising college students.
Experience working in a college environment. Key Responsibilities HVAC Operations Monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on heating, air conditioning and control systems, including boilers, to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.
Develop and document a preventive maintenance program for all HVAC units across campus.
Recommends outsourcing of repairs when appropriate, and assists in the evaluation of the quality of work of the outsourced work.
Communicates and assists with entry and support for vendors and subcontractors as directed.
Responds to emergency and service calls as directed by the Director of Facilities.
Responsible for student crew oversight and supervision, including hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of all student workers.
Collaborate with the staff of the WPO to solve any student crew issues that may arise. Programmatic Support Performs assigned general maintenance duties and assists in other Facilities Operation work as needed across the campus.
Supports with event setups and major College events.
Supports other Facilities supervisors with their specialization areas.
Supervises student employees in their general maintenance related work.
Performs other duties as assigned.
