Duties Duties include, but are not limited to: Install, maintain, and repairs a wide range of commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment in a variety of environments including barracks, administrion areas, medical facilities and arms rooms. Troubleshoot, and repairs a variety of heing equipment including gas- and oil-fueled boilers, he pumps, steam, and medium and high temperure converters. Requires knowledge of large commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment, the refrigerant cycle, circuits and controls. Install and repair pumps. Performs preventive maintenance. Drives various vehicles to transport self, supplies, and other employees throughout the installion and on public roads

Physical Requirements :
The physical effort is greer the grade 10 level than the grade 8 level because the equipment in the system is usually larger and must be maneuvered into and out of specific locions while dismantling and reassembling. Grade 10 mechanics frequently carry and set up parts and equipment th weigh up to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are opered when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. Grade 10 air conditioning equipment mechanics make repairs and installions from ladders, scaffolding and plforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are frequently for longer periods of time than th described the grade 8 level.
Working Conditions :
Grade 10 mechanics are subject to the same shop conditions as grade 8 mechanics but they are occasionally required to work outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty tic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Uncomfortable face masks and protective clothing may be occasionally worn when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants. The systems are larger the grade 10 level than the grade 8 level and refrigerants are used in larger amounts; therefore, grade 10 mechanics are subject to larger amounts of escaping gases when making emergency repairs. Ability To Do The Work Of An Air Conditioning Mechanic Without More Than Normal Supervision in performing the full range of air conditioning and refrigerion equipment repair. Reled experience includes working as a journeyman in the installion, operion, repair and maintenance of refrigerion and air conditioning equipment; knowledgeable in the principles and theories of air conditioning, refrigerion and he transfer; able to select, maintain and safely use the tools, measuring equipment, testing devices and instruments reled to the heing, ventilion, air condition and refrigerion (HVAC/R) trade; repair, replace install, and test various HVAC/R equipment and/or systems; able to read from blue prints and diagrams when performing tasks.

Utilizes schemics, blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, oral and written instructions while conforming to safe efficient working practices. Completes work assignments th are made through written and oral instructions, work orders and preventive maintenance print-out schedules. Assembles and/or installs a variety of HVAC/R equipment per manufacturer’s specificions. Interprets instructions, specificions and blueprints while examining and performing operional tests to determine repairs. Makes mechanical repairs to such items as pumps, compressors, chillers, receivers and evaporors. Performs such tasks as installing and fitting connecting rods, bearings and bushings. Uses precision tools and equipment, such as volt-ohm meters, amp meters, leak detectors, calibrion equipment and other test equipment used in the refrigerion trade. Calibres and sets up transmitters, thermosts, and other pneumic electric controls. Charges systems with proper refrigerants to obtain optimum opering temperures. Uses charging gauges and charging cylinders to maintain HVAC equipment. Properly reclaims and disposes of all types of refrigerant. Applies principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigerion such as the refrigerion cycle, he transfer laws, the use of refrigerant table. Makes bench performance checks and calibrions to assure th each control segment operional as installed. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions to large complex air conditioning systems. Evalues equipment to repair or replace minor/major components.
