To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must NOT have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act. This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Manager and is located at the NC Correctional Institution for women. Duties for this position are as follows but not limited to: Provides experienced level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Designs, installs services and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and
construction
Assists in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electricals circuits
Performs preventive maintenance
Instructs lower level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs
Provides technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management system
Works by instruction from supervisor, by policies, the NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and
safety policies
Requires great physical effort in the installation, repair and removal of HVAC systems
May work with all custody levels of offenders and have close contact
Will be required, at times, to perform repairs on equipment’s outside his/her specialty trade

Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state’s primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state’s other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders. The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.
