Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the HVAC-R Supervisor, the HVAC-R Worker performs at the journeyman level to install, repair and maintain refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation equipment.
Removes and repairs, adjusts and/or replaces defective parts as appropriate.
Installs new and replacement air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
Checks newly installed equipment to ensure proper operation.
Performs preventative maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
Assists in laying out scheduled work and obtaining necessary materials.
Please note: This position may be outsourced later this year as part of the university’s plan to outsource its facilities management functions. Employees may be hired by the selected contractor; if the request for proposals is unsuccessful, employees will continue to work directly for the university.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED; two years of professional experience repairing and maintaining refrigeration and heating equipment; and valid driver’s license. Vocational or technical training may be considered in lieu of professional experience. Knowledge of refrigeration and related heating/cooling equipment. Working knowledge of the tools and procedures used in equipment maintenance. Ability to diagnose and repair defects in compressors and condensers/heating systems. Some knowledge of PCs, including knowledge of related computerized control systems. Ability to drive university vehicle to/from work sites; perform heavy manual labor; work independently and in all types of weather; read blueprints of electrical, piping and duct systems; and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational or technical training; experience with related computerized control systems; and refrigerant certification.
Additional Comments
Travel/Overtime Requirements:
Ability to work nights and weekends during emergencies and for on-call rotation.
