Mechanical Tech 5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars Shreveport, LA 71115 We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our steel manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment and systems used in steel production. You will play a key part in minimizing downtime, ensuring equipment reliability, and supporting continuous plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical components such as pumps, conveyors, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, and rolling mills.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Assist in the installation and alignment of new mechanical equipment and systems.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and manuals to guide repair and installation work.
- Fabricate and weld metal parts as needed for equipment repair or modification.
- Collaborate with electrical and production teams to resolve equipment issues and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders using CMMS systems.
- Adhere to plant safety protocols and ensure all work is performed in a safe and compliant manner.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or associate degree in Mechanical Technology or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (steel or heavy industry preferred).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic welding/fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, manuals, and diagrams.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools, alignment instruments, and measuring equipment.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and on-call when necessary.
