Job Description

Job SummaryThe Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for building and assembling mechanical components and systems for custom precision grinding machines. This includes interpreting mechanical drawings, fitting and aligning components, installing pneumatics and hydraulics, and supporting machine testing. This is a full-time (hourly) role working 1st shift Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, field service, and weekend work to meet project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Assembly
  • Assemble complex mechanical systems, subassemblies, and machine structures from blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Fit, align, and secure bearings, shafts, linear rails, spindles, and other mechanical elements
  • Install and connect pneumatic and hydraulic systems including valves, cylinders, and fluid lines
  • Use hoists, torque tools, and precision measurement devices to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Machine Setup and Testing
  • Support initial machine testing and alignment, including runout checks, geometry verification, and fluid system testing
  • Assist with system troubleshooting and adjustments prior to customer runoff
  • Work with engineers and electrical technicians to ensure full machine functionality.
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Follow all shop safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE
  • Ensure mechanical assemblies meet internal standards for quality and reliability
  • Adhere to OSHA and applicable industry safety regulations.
  • Documentation and Communication
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation
  • Record updates to assembly procedures or prints as needed
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, electrical assembly, and QC teams to optimize build efficiency and resolve issues
  • -Qualifications
  • Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical degree in mechanical or manufacturing technology preferred.3+ years of mechanical assembly experience, preferably in industrial or custom machinery environments.
  • Skills and Competencies
  • Proficient in reading mechanical drawings and technical documents.

Skilled in use of hand and power tools, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.

Experience assembling bearings, gearboxes, and rotating assemblies.

Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.

Able to work independently or on a team in a fast-paced shop.

Effective communicator with team members and engineers.

Field service experience a plus.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise and machinery

Familiarity with grinding machines, spindles, and precision motion systems.

Alignment experience (e.g., X/Z squareness, spindle alignment).Own tools a plus
