Full Job Description Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our steel manufacturing team. This position is responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance on a wide range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that support steel production operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a heavy industrial environment, a strong understanding of steel manufacturing equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex machinery to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems including lasers, saws, press breaks, shears, cranes, gearboxes, motors, pumps, and hydraulics. Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) tasks according to established schedules and record all findings and actions. Troubleshoot breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance to return equipment to service as quickly and safely as possible. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals to understand systems and troubleshoot issues. Assist with the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new machinery or equipment upgrades. Fabricate and weld components as needed to support repair efforts. Follow and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE use, and hazard reporting. Work collaboratively with production staff, engineers, and other maintenance team members to identify equipment issues and recommend solutions. Maintain a clean and organized work environment and ensure tools and parts are properly stored.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with overhead crane maintenance and operation. Experience with Lasers.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, or related field preferred. 2 years of maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or steel manufacturing environment. Proficient in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and working with hydraulics and pneumatics. Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial control systems is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and respond to emergency calls as needed. Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, and operating in confined spaces.
