JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city parks and parks facilities. Job duties consist of related maintenance duties. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficient and effective maintenance of those parks. FLSA status is Non-Exempt. This position starts as an entry-level position in the Parks and Recreation Department and has some growth opportunity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this classification. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.

PARK MAINTENANCE DUTIES

(70%) M aintains parks landscaping and grounds as assigned: cuts grass and weeds; trims trees and shrubs; removes fallen limbs and leaves; adds straw and mulch; applies pesticide and herbicide; cleans inlets; maintains and repairs irrigation systems. M aintains sports fields and prepares fields for play as assigned: paints, chalks, and levels fields; cuts grass and weeds; applies herbicides and pesticides; aerates and top-dresses fields; maintains irrigation system; repairs fences and bleachers. M aintains and repairs parks facilities as assigned: cleans and maintains restrooms; collects litter and empties trash receptacles; paints interior and exterior surfaces; makes carpentry repairs of parks facilities.

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE DUTIES

(20%) Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and hand and power tools. Ensures compliance with safety guidelines. Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of tools and equipment. Makes repairs, including field repairs.

OTHER DUTIES

(10%) Makes necessary changes to convert fields for seasonal sports. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS M

ust be eighteen (18) years of age or older. E xperience in the operation of trucks and other light-duty automotive equipment. E xperience in performing heavy manual labor preferred. M ust be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

J ob duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear. J ob candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress. J ob duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
