Maintenance Repair Worker 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars 5900 Messer Airport Highway, Birmingham, AL 35212 JOB SUMMARY Support the safe and efficient operations of the Birmingham airport through maintenance initiatives including but not limited to performing inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and providing general maintenance for all airport owned buildings, systems, and equipment. Will be responsible for preventive maintenance, as well as emergency and scheduled repairs to electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems. May include carpentry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform safety inspections of Airport Terminal, Parking Deck, Cargo Facility, and other Airport owned buildings and facilities. Identify needed repairs, make recommendations to do repairs, or complete the repairs. Perform inspections of Airport systems such as fire alarm, fire protection, access control, CCTV, building automation, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. Make repairs as needed or notify management of the need to perform more complex repairs. Perform plumbing repairs such as leaks in lines, drains, and fixtures. Unclog drains and fixtures. Repair and replace valves, sensors, pumps, and filters. Perform repairs to electrical equipment such as fixtures, switches, outlets, cords, ballasts, and fuses. Perform lock and hardware repairs to Access control systems, magnetic locks, electric strikes, mortis locks, keypad entry, cypher locks, and Interchangeable Core (IC) keying systems. Assist with HVAC repairs by changing filters, repairing, replacing, or lubricating motors, dampers, bearings, actuators, valves, fans, and sensors. Perform general building maintenance such as painting, carpentry, roof leak repair, replace floor and wall tiles, replace or repair carpet, replace or repair ceiling grid and tiles. Perform repairs to automatic gate arms and operators. Make necessary adjustments to Airport systems such as lighting controls, building automation system, fire alarm, fire protection, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing using a desktop computer, table, or laptop to make necessary adjustments. Document and manage schedule and unscheduled work orders using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CCMS). Complete material requisitions, vetting the vendors, and obtaining needed pricing. Other duties as needed or assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION
(S) & EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two or more years of experience in commercial or industrial building maintenance and repair including responsibility for identifying and completing needed repairs. Experience performing repairs in electrical, heating/ventilation, carpentry, plumbing, tile replacement, carpet replacement, and fire alarms/protection systems. Experience scheduling work orders. Experience using tools appropriate to each of the types of repairs needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES
Ability and willingness to use a variety of hand and power tools, meters, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and material handling equipment to perform job duties. Ability to communicate orally and in-writing with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to access vendors and pricing to make requisition recommendations. Ability to read and review operations manuals, wiring schematics, and blueprints as needed related to repair requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Required to stand and walk significant portion of each shift; will also sit at a computer from time to time. Must use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders, bend, and kneel. Must be able to lift to 25 pounds. Excellent vision and hearing needed. Consistent exposure to environmental conditions outdoors in all weather conditions, including but not limited to hot and cold temperatures, humidity, and precipitation. Will be exposed to airfield traffic, fumes/noxious odors, dusts, and pollen and be in a noisy environment. Must be able to work any of the three shifts at the airport (6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., 2:00 pm-10:30 pm; 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.) as needed. Must have excellent attendance.
