Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the incumbent performs semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining various parks, courts, grounds, and facilities. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are illustrative and not ehaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below. Performs routine grounds and road right-of-way clearing and maintenance: cuts grass with power mowers, including push-type, zero-turn, or tractor mowers; uses string trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, blower; cleans and maintains grounds maintenance equipment; cuts, hoes and sprays weeds; trims and prunes shrubbery and small trees; rakes leaves and other debris; edges curbs; lays sod or seed as required; loads trash and trimmings onto a trailer or truck; sweeps or blows sidewalks and parking lots; cleans restrooms and floors; conducts litter removal; inspects and repairs irrigation systems; prepares areas for public use. Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Makes daily written and oral reports. Informs and assists public in the use of facilities. Assumes all supervisory duties and responsibilities in the absence of immediate supervisor. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, practices, and principles. Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools. Positive customer service skills. Ability to work well with others or work independently, task oriented. Self-starter, shows initiative, able to follow instructions.

Education and Eperience:

High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Grounds maintenance eperience preferred. A combination of education, training, and eperience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and must be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment. Environmental Conditions Outdoor work in all types of weather.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assumes all supervisory duties and responsibilities in the absence of immediate supervisor.
