This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completes logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Operates vehicles such as trucks to transport people or material to job sitesLoads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipmentMaintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, installing landscape material, and other maintenance tasksPerforms utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, manholes, and sewer linesPerforms maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing pumps, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directedMaintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairsAssists the public by answering questions and providing routine informationPerforms clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logsCompares or inspects items against a standardFollows oral and written directions; communication effectively in both oral and written form of supervisorMakes a few decisions, affecting only the individualEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices
