Emergency Situation:

If assigned, employees in this classification will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Performs general groundskeeping and building maintenance at municipal facilities including custodial and facility maintenance as needed. Performs routine maintenance tasks, such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and landscaping in parks, public spaces, and beach access points. Cleans, repairs, and maintains municipal buildings, public restrooms, and other town facilities. Maintains assigned Town properties and areas ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-maintained for visitors. Performs various tasks involving maintenance of canals, or ditches; trims palm trees; rakes grounds; cleans waterways of trash; calibrates and maintains spray pumps; cuts/removes weeds, grass, cattails, or other vegetation around the water; controls vegetation in the drainage system for maximum drainage; picks up and removes dead fish and animals. Performs various tasks involving road/walkway maintenance including projects. Performs various tasks involving general plumbing maintenance and repair projects. Assists with preparation and clean up of hurricanes, storms, or emergency situations. Safely operates a variety of machinery, vehicles equipment, and tools associated with division projects. Assists in maintaining cleanliness and aesthetics of building and facilities to include general cleaning duties as needed. Ensures that equipment and tools are consistently maintained and are clean and in safe and operable condition at all times. Monitors assigned equipment condition or observed structural issues and reports required repairs to supervisor. Performs routine cleaning, safety, and operation inspections on assigned vehicle and performs routine maintenance and upkeep as needed, reporting necessary repairs to supervisor. Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; obtains quotes for supplies, and initiates requests for new/replacement materials. Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and wear personal protective equipment at all times. Performs administrative report and record maintenance duties including timesheets, activity logs, regulations and retains records as appropriate. Identifies and notifies supervisors of problems observed on streets or facilities. Performs routine landscaping tasks as assigned to include but not limited to trimming trees, mowing grass, watering plants, spraying and pulling weeds. Performs technical trades work as certified to do so and assigned. Install signs and paints inside and outside of street lines. Performs daily trash pick-ups by collect and dispose of litter and debris from public areas, beaches, and parks to maintain a clean and attractive environment. Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste in public areas. Completes documentation and reports as required for vehicles and daily operations. Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations while performing maintenance tasks to prevent accidents and injuries. Report maintenance issues, damage, or safety concerns to supervisors for prompt resolution. Collaborate with other maintenance workers, departments, and agencies to complete tasks efficiently and effectively. Assists with Town-wide Public Works requests to include night and weekend support for meetings and events. Performs weekend and holiday work as assigned. Attends all required training for operations. Attends all assigned meetings. Operates a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks as directed. Performs emergency response tasks and assignments as directed. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS
Education, Certification, and Experience:

High school diploma/GED; one (1) year of experience working in maintenance and/or related fields. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and obtain a valid Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, resolutions, and procedures. Knowledge of basic groundskeeping, housekeeping and building maintenance practices. Knowledge of how to use and apply paints, sealers, and stains properly. Knowledge and application of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment. Knowledge of the techniques and procedures used in streets, grounds, and facility repair and maintenance. Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) of assignment. Ability to operate service vehicles, including pickup trucks, utility vehicles, riding lawnmowers, etc. Ability to safely operate motorized tools, manual tools, and light equipment such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, saws, drills, augers, tillers, compactors, and emergency generators. Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment and operate a computer as necessary. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the general public. Ability to work outdoors often during extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision. Ability to handle a multitude of diverse tasks simultaneously while maintaining an attention to detail for the purpose of ensuring accuracy in task performance. Ability to draw valid conclusions in task processing and prioritization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, calculate decimals and percentages and compute discount, ratio and proportion and profit and loss. Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various types of information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.

Physical Requirements:

The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavy objects up to 100 pounds with the assistance of other employees and/or equipment as appropriate. Requires excellent eye/hand/foot coordination for operating standard and specialized electrical and gas operated equipment.

Environmental Requirements:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, extreme temperatures and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, water hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or animal/wildlife attacks.

Requires the ability to speak, hear (perceive sound) and/or signal people to convey and exchange information; differentiate between colors or shades of color; read a variety of materials, at times complex; apply principles of rational problem-solving; record and deliver information, explain procedures, issue and follow oral and written instructions; and communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.
