Veteran Preference Summary:

This class of employee performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of county roads and grounds. The employee performs a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the foreman and sometimes is required to perform independently. Work involves the use of small power tools and requires frequent physical labor.

Responsibilities:

Ability to use weed eater, pole saw, chain saw, etc.
Trim trees.
Flagging during construction.
Assist with paving; shoveling
Patch roads and fix driveways.
Clean right of ways of garbage/debris.
Assist sign department employees when needed.
Maintain and replace road signs.
Assist with other types of construction when needed.
Perform daily check of fluids in equipment. i.e. oil, water, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Any combination of education, training and experience which will provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to use small power tools safely.
Ability to perform the heavy manual labor related to the position, under varying weather conditions.
Skill in the completion of minor repair work.
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment, both hand operated and power operated, inclusive of sharpening, oiling, filter changing and minor repairs.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members.

Qualifications:

Valid Florida Driver’s License for required travel, CDL a plus.
Employer conducts background check and motor vehicle record check.
High School Diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Acceptable vision (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
Ability to work under stress with time constraints.
