QUESTIONS
General Purpose Performs manual work in construction, maintenance and repair of all public grounds within the Village limits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mows, edges, rakes, weeds, and participates in the cleaning of greens, parks, roadway greenery and open space areas.
Maintains Village trees by pruning and removing dead and damaged limbs and trees. Performs brush chipping, root pruning and stump grinding.
Operates and maintains tree-trimming equipment, aerial lift trucks, chain saws, pole and root pruners, stump grinders, and brush chipper.
Performs traffic control of ensure safety of cars, pedestrians and tree crews in traffic areas.
Performs such duties as hauling heavy material, repairing roads, cutting grass, demolition work and various other preparatory work for the trades.
Performs simple and elementary work not specifically related to the trades, such as moving heavy furniture, equipment or materials.
Inspects, washes, sweeps, cleans, paints and repairs equipment and facilities as part of routine maintenance of any public facilities.
Performs minor semi-skilled building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades.
Repairs of potholes, sidewalks, and installation of signs.
Performs routine maintenance on hand operated and power equipment, including but not limited to electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems, used in daily work assignments.
Carries out seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, mulching, and pest and weed control as necessary and when directed. Plants and prunes turf, trees, shrubs and flowers.
Collects and disposes of solid waste from right-of-ways, buildings and grounds; pick up litter from premises.
Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed and as directed.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions, programs and tournaments.
Pressure washes sidewalks, walkways and any other building and or right-of-way areas as necessary.
Operates pressure washing equipment including maintenance of equipment.
Sets up cones, barricades and other traffic safety equipment as necessary while working in the public right-of-way.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of equipment and tools, grounds-keeping work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Specialized training or experience in painting, maintenance and repair or a related field is highly desired.
Additional Qualifications:
Must Possess and maintain or be able to obtain within (2) months of hire, a valid Commercial or Public Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) license, with Ornamental and Turf endorsement, issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Must have a working knowledge of irrigation systems, including operations and maintenance.
Must have working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance, minor repairs and safety precautions
Must have field skill proficiency in the use of cutting and power tools.
Must be physically able to perform duties, which may require walking, crawling, kneeling, or standing for prolonged periods of time and heavy lifting. Must have good eyesight, including depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors.
Must maintain high ethical, honesty and moral standards. Must be prepared and available to work during a hurricane in the Village’s EOC.
Must be fluent in the English language. Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desired.
Must be a non-smoker. Applicants must complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment. This may include, but not limited to, a written examination, typing test, psychological screening to determine suitability for position, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation, and a job-related medical examination including a drug/alcohol screening test.
The minimum qualifications may be waived by the Village Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds, move up to 200 pounds’ bulk loads, walk/stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time.
Ability to perform several tasks at one time.
Ability to maintain a high level of organization.
Ability and responsibility to effectively work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
