Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform general building maintenance work in the assigned functional area. Employees in this classification function at entry level and are responsible for aplishing a daily routine of general and preventive facilities and infrastructure maintenance and repair tasks to provide employees and general public with environmentally safe, attractive,fortable, clean, and efficient public facilities. Employee has maintenance related knowledge and proficiency gained through training and experience. Performs duties as assigned and necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
Essential Job Functions
The list of essential functions, as outlined in, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Performs a variety of building maintenance tasks, e.g., preventive maintenance (PM) inspections, changing light bulbs, painting, repairing and servicing plumbing, electrical, minor carpentry and trim work, HVAC, doors, gates, locks and associated hardware and an assorted variety ofmercial kitchen equipment.
Responsible for the daily electronic data entry andpletion of maintenance logs for the duties assigned.
May be assigned to an emergency and after-hours rotational on-call duty.
May operate a wide variety of light equipment and machinery, e.g., automobile, pick up truck, fork lift, high reach, scissors lift or bucket lift.
May utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools.
Position performs a variety of labor intensive work which may include exposure to difficult working conditions, e.g., extreme heat or cold, fumes, chemicals.
Performs general maintenance and facilities inspections related to both life safety and accreditations, e.g., fire extinguishers, elevators, lift stations, sprinkler systems or alarm systems.
Attends safety meetings and/or participates in safety inspections.
Participates in the construction, renovation and restoration of equipment replacement and facilities maintenance.
Participates in work-site safety set-up, e.g., preps work areas; and vendor escorts.
Participates in the event set-up and removal of tents, tables, chairs, stages etc. when assigned.
Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris, spills, broken windows, broken locks or inoperative equipment.
Organizes and maintains inventory of maintenance supplies and tools. Performs duties as assigned and necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:

At least six (6) months of general working knowledge of building/facilities maintenance and skilled trades.

Miscellaneous:

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to perform duties inside a locked-down jail/correctional facility, and other high-security buildings.
Ability to ad to prescribed routines and practices.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize materials, methods and equipment used in general maintenance work.
Ability to work independently to carry out assignments topletion.
Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.
Ability to work at heights in excess of 12 feet and perform physically demanding manual labor.
Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended periods of time.
Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass and various chemicals.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships andmunications with department management, County employees, and the general public.
Ability to understand, carry out, and document written and oral instructions.
