Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform general maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial work in the assigned functional area. Employees in this classification function at the entry level, and are responsible for aplishing a daily routine of general and preventative facilities maintenance and repair tasks to provide employees and the general public with an environmentally safe, attractive,fortable, clean, and efficient public buildings, roadways, and grounds. Employee has knowledge and proficiency gained through training and experience. Performs related work as directed.
Essential Job Functions
The list of essential functions, as outlined in, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Performs custodial tasks, e.g., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting and polishing furniture; cleaning vents, air filters, fans, walls; changing light bulbs. Utilizes appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and effectively to ensure employee and public safety.
Performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks e.g. edging, mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, fertilizing, laying sod, raking, spreads seed, plants foliage and shrubbery, aerates sports fields, lawns and soils, trims and maintains landscape.
Operates various lawn care equipment, i.e., manual and riding lawn mowers, sports turf mowers, sand pros and tractors, sod cutters, trucks, weed-eaters, trimmers, edger, blower. Utilize fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pest control chemicals according to prescribed safety labels.
Operates and maintains irrigation and drainage systems.
May utilize a wide variety of manual, gas and electric powered hand tools, e.g., hammer, shovel, rake, screw drivers, wrenches, digging bar, chainsaw, chemical sprayer leaf blowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, edger.
Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve, or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris, spills, broken windows, broken locks. Performs minor maintenance and repairs on facilities, structures, equipment, sidewalks, drainage, and other County property in one or more of the skilled and semi-skilled disciplines, e.g., plumbing, masonry, carpentry, flooring, irrigation, electrical. Participates in work-site safety setup, e.g., prepares work areas, sets barricades and cones, conducts traffic control in accordance with uniform work zone safety standards, and flags traffic.
Participates in the set-up and removal of tables, chairs, stages, etc., for daily meetings and classes.
Cleans equipment and tools after use and maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas.
Organizes and maintains inventory of maintenance supplies and tools.
Painting of facility fields, buildings – both exterior and interior, doors, etc., as needed.
Set up the layout of fields for the various sports that the facility hosts.
s equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to immediate supervisor.
Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
May perform basic electrical assignments.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or GED;

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

Six (6) months of experience working with grass and landscaping;
Basic Electrical Skills

Miscellaneous:

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to operate various basic tools and grounds keeping equipment, e.g., hammer, screwdriver, wrench, saw, lawn mower, edger, chainsaw, blower;
Ability to operate various vehicles, trucks, light construction equipment, and machinery, and other gasoline and diesel driven motors, e.g., service trucks, forklifts, backhoe, grader, bulldozer, dump trucks
Ability to work at heights up to 20 feet

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS
Physical Demand:

Heavy
100 pounds maximum lifting
Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
Good eyesight for the production or safety of self and others.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of medium work.
Physical agility is required in climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and crawling.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended periods; and
Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass, and various chemicals.
Exposure to adverse weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, noise, and dust.
