This position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, functionality, and maintenance of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support 24/7 emergency response readiness. This role combines custodial and facility maintenance duties to keep the EOC in optimal condition, ensuring all equipment, systems, and infrastructure remain operational. Essential Job Functions
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Routine Maintenance Tasks:
Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing floors, restrooms, and other common areas
Operating and maintaining custodial equipment, such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and mops.
Emptying trash receptacles and ensuring proper waste disposal
Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules, work orders and maintenance tasks, and inspections.
Assist in coordinating and collaborating with other county departments and vendors to ensure facilities remain operational.
Making minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment, such as replacing light bulbs or fixing loose hardware.
Capability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
Inventory Management:
Replenishing paper towels, soap, and other supplies in common areas.
Maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Safety and Security:
Monitoring EOC building and grounds for security and safety conditions and reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
Assisting with preparing EOC and other facilities for emergencies, such as setting up emergency shelters, stocking emergency supplies, and ensuring emergency equipment is operational.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects frequently, carrying tools and equipment, and standing or walking for extended periods of time. The role often involves bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and climbing for maintenance tasks and requires manual dexterity for the use of tools and machinery.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS
Will work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor locations, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, or rain when working outdoors. Employees in this role may encounter hazardous materials, including chemicals, oils, or cleaning agents, and must follow safety procedures to minimize risks. Additionally, this position may be exposed to noise, vibrations, and dust. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to mitigate these risks, and employees must adhere to all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
(PPE): Employees are required to adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to ensure a safe working environment.
Specific requirements include:
Mandatory PPE:
Employees must wear designated PPE, which may include safety goggles, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and respiratory masks, depending on the tasks performed.
Safety Training:
All employees will receive training on the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE to minimize risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Inspection and Maintenance:
Employees are responsible for regularly inspecting their PPE for wear and tear, and reporting any damaged equipment to their supervisor for replacement.
Emergency Equipment:
Familiarity with the location and use of emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and eyewash stations, is required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should possess a solid foundational background that demonstrates their ability to engage with the responsibilities of the role effectively. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Two (2) years of custodial, maintenance, or facilities management experience required.
Knowledge of basic facility maintenance and cleaning procedures.
General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems is a plus.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Basic computer skills to perform tasks such as sending and receiving emails and entering data into an electronic work order system, if applicable.
Ability to assess facility issues and take appropriate corrective action.
Willingness to work as part of a team to support EOC operations and emergency response efforts.
Understanding of OSHA regulations, hazardous material handling, and emergency safety protocols.
Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and adjust to evolving operational needs.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and during emergency activations.
Perform other duties as assigned to maintain EOC operational readiness.
Required to pass physical, drug testing and Level 3 FDLE background screening.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record. Additional Information Pay Grade T07 Driving Position – Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.
