Major Functions The County of Volusia is looking for a Senior Maintenance Worker for the Parks, Recreation & Culture Division. This role is based at Robert Strickland Park in Daytona, Florida. The responsibilities include performing semi-skilled manual labor such as clearing brush from roadsides, lining ballfields, sweeping pathways, cleaning restrooms, removing trash and debris, and maintaining lawns and bushes by cutting, trimming, watering, and fertilizing. Additionally, the position involves cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, pavilions, and park facilities. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have at least one (1) year of experience in maintaining a park, operating commercial lawn maintenance equipment and facility maintenance experience. Operates commercial landscape equipment including, but not limited to, mowers, blowers, brush cutters, bunker rakes, sod cutters, chain saws, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and pressure washers.
Operates mid-size tractors with attachments, powered lifts (elevated platforms), and various construction equipment, including dump trucks, skid steer loaders, generators, saws, and air-powered tools.
Supports repair technicians and journeymen in their tasks. Aids in field maintenance and service work on equipment in use.
Operates both vehicle-mounted and portable spray equipment.
Assists with application, storage, mixing and loading herbicides for vegetation control.
Clears brush and debris from parks. Sweeps sidewalks and removes refuse and paper from grounds. Cuts, trims, and waters trees & landscape materials.
Performs minor repairs under close supervision such as changing lights and unstopping toilets.
Washes and cleans vehicles and equipment as required.
Keeps restrooms and locker rooms supplied with necessary papers, soaps, and towels.
Cleans and sanitizes park restrooms, shower areas, pavilions and playgrounds.
Maintains biking, hiking, and equestrian trails.
Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks and vans.
Assists in moving furniture, equipment, and/or large or heavy objects.
Performs scheduled housekeeping duties throughout the facility and area grounds.
Assists with ballfield maintenance, prepares fields for daily use.
Picks up and delivers parts and supplies as directed.
Cleans and prepares pavilions, ball fields and buildings for rentals.
May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Senior Maintenance Worker – Starting $16.72 High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker or two (2) years of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work. A comparable amount of education and training may be substituted for the required experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License at time of hire and maintain thereafter. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have at least one (1) year of experience in maintaining a park, operating commercial lawn maintenance equipment and facility maintenance experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Depending on assignment All knowledge, skills, and abilities of Maintenance Worker. Knowledge of basic tools used in maintenance and construction work.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to laboring work.
Ability to perform routine unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work.
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to follow oral instructions.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to perform work without direct supervision.
Ability to fill out daily task sheets.
Ability to safely operate a pick-up truck and small trailer and safely secure loads.
Ability to safely tow and back up a trailer.
Ability to safely operate a mid-size tractor w/attachments and powered lifts (elevated platforms)
