The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Maintenance Worker for the Coastal Division. This position is located in various coastal locations throughout the County of Volusia. This position will be responsible for the maintenance of a coastal or inlet park including the maintenance of public restrooms associated with the park. Duties also include performing a variety of general maintenance activities in areas such as light carpentry, debris removal, minor landscaping, and minor repair work. Candidate must be willing to work under all types of inclement weather, early and late shifts, weekends, and holidays which are part of the requirements for this position. •

Illustrative Duties NOTE:
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Operates basic tools for the maintenance of a coastal or inlet park.
May operate UTV to navigate inlet park to conduct maintenance activities such as debris removal, grill maintenance, pavilion maintenance, picnic table maintenance, scat removal, and ensuring patrons comply with dog leash ordinance.
Cleans restrooms according to a restroom cleaning schedule.
Picks up trash and empties trash cans throughout the day. Assists in performing field maintenance and service work on equipment operated.
Operates light equipment (e.g. blowers, sweepers, weed eaters edgers, pressure washers, etc.).
Performs small repairs as needed.
Performs examples of work at the Maintenance Worker I level.
May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker I or an equivalent combination of education (or training) and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Ability to safely operate chainsaws, brush cutters, blowers, sweepers, commercial mowers and other assigned equipment without assistance. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Ability to perform work without direct supervision.
Ability to fill out daily work sheets.
Ability to safely operate pick-up truck and small trailer and safely secure loads.
Ability to safely two and back a trailer.

Physical Demands:
Ability to see, talk, and hear. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and machines. Peripheral vision. Ability to pull, push, lift, carry 75 pounds, grasp, handle, climb, balance, reach overhead, bend, and stoop. Ability to traverse uneven, wet or broken terrain.
Environmental Demands:
Generally outside work. Ability to tolerate inclement weather including, but not limited to heat, humidity, wind, cold. May require exposure to chemicals, dust, insects, noise, fumes and confined spaces.
Mental Demands:
Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions, procedures, memos, and directions. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information.
