WATER UTILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER

Position Type FT Employee Salary $17.12/HR (higher if water distribution certified) Date 2025.06.25 Description General Description Perform skilled task and manual labor in the construction maintenance and repair of the city’s water distribution system. Under the general direction of the Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for operating and maintaining continuous uninterrupted service of the City’s water systems. Have the ability to use independent judgment and the initiative to troubleshoot and diagnose operational problems and take corrective action. Responsible for ensuring safety and environmental requirements are consistently achieved. Work is evaluated based upon review of the efficient daily operations of the city’s water distribution system timeliness of assignment completion result obtained attendance safety following city policies rules or procedures cooperation with staff and management and performance of other related job duties. This is an essential emergency operation position subject to emergency call out and response. Essential Job Functions Performs various duties required in the installation; repairing and maintenance of water lines; valves; hydrants; meters and other utility appurtenances within the department. Reports to the Field Operations Supervisor. Ability to keep accurate daily field reports and other paperwork and records a required and enter into computer. Effectively locate underground utilities. Insuring the city’s water distribution system meet all City objectives and stays compliant with all state and federal agencies rules and regulations. Organizes tool; maintenance supplies and inventory; researches and solicits quotes for supplies and coordinates purchases with the Field Operations Supervisor. Responsible for picking up supplies/materials transporting to job site. Must have the ability to maintain accurate and legible daily work sheets and maintenance logs. Ensure that proper traffic devices are in place and traffic safety precaution are adhered to. Operates light and heavy equipment in performing daily task. Ensure weekly vehicle inspection sheets are completed and turned into fleet supervisor. Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment to ensure safe and proper working conditions Responds to on-call and/or call-out assignments in emergencies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency. Preferred one (1) year experience working with underground utilities.

CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Valid Class “B” Commercial Florida Driver’s license with tanker endorsement; or the ability to obtain license within (6) months from the date of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with the Florida Water Distribution License Class 1; 2; or 3 (A comparable amount of training; education; or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to operate; maneuver equipment; machinery tools and/or materials used in performing the essential functions. Ability to comprehend/interpret and carry-out instructions in written and oral format. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; other staff personnel; vendor; contractors; engineers and the public. Ability to work alone with only general supervision and direction. Involves semi-routine; standardization work; but involves latitude for independent judgement and decision making. Knowledge of the methods; materials; equipment and techniques used in the extension; repair; and maintenance of water distribution systems and related equipment. Ability to make and maintain maintenance logs. Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment to detect flaws or defects and make minor repairs Ability to read understand As-Builds or blue prints Ability to drive a vehicle; light or heavy equipment. Ability to operate and maintenance all standard mechanical tools; power tools; hydraulic or pneumatic tools and any other essential equipment. Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic mathematical concepts related to this position. Ability to calculate and measure to determine material needed. Ability to train new personnel in the necessary principles; practices and procedures for the function of this position. Ability to respond to emergency call backs; including nights; weekends; and holidays
