Job Description

MAINTENANCE WORKER I – PUBLIC WORKS – 2 POSITIONS

Glynn County Government 4145 Norwich Street Extension, Brunswick, GA 31520 This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees.

Summary:

This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled or unskilled work associated with the maintenance of buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities within an assigned department/division of the county. The incumbent in this position is exposed to all weather conditions, including rain, humidity, extreme heat, and cold. The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs general repair and maintenance work on county buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities within an assigned county department; performs semi-skilled and manual work involving building maintenance, building construction, airport maintenance, electrical/mechanical maintenance, plumbing maintenance, public works maintenance, custodial maintenance, grounds maintenance, parks/recreational facility maintenance, mosquito control, or other projects within the assigned department; assists skilled-trade employees or other workers as needed. Performs various tasks involving building maintenance, carpentry, or building construction projects; demolishes, constructs, and replaces walls; repairs sheet rock; repairs/replaces door locks; replaces doors, windows, ceilings, and flooring; assists with construction and installation of cabinetry; repairs roofing and beach boardwalks; paints interior/exterior surfaces; pressure-washes building surfaces; removes graffiti from walls or other surfaces. Performs various tasks involving road construction/maintenance and public works maintenance projects; patches potholes in road surfaces; patches cross-cuts in roads for drainage pipes; builds drainage flumes and berms; inspects and repairs dirt driveways; adds asphalt aprons to driveways; repairs washouts on road shoulders and at driveway pipes; removes tree roots from roadways; builds concrete forms; pours and finishes concrete; lays block; constructs and repairs drop inlets or catch basins; installs drainage pipes to drop inlets; repairs damaged pipes; installs metal fenders systems; constructs barricades; installs and repairs fences. Performs various tasks involving grounds maintenance, roadside maintenance, or landscaping projects; mows roadside ditches and fall ditches; mows grass and edges landscaped areas; plants and maintains trees, shrubs, and flowers; waters flowers, grass, and landscaped areas; trims trees, hedges, and shrubs; cuts down trees and tree limbs; spreads pine straw and other grounds materials; applies seed, fertilizer, and herbicides; rakes and disposes of grass clippings, brush, and other materials; blows leaves/debris from sidewalks; picks up and disposes of debris/litter from grounds and parking lots; removes dead animals from roadways; digs holes/trenches and shovels materials. Transports, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, daily work sheets, inspection sheets, building assessments, service records, maintenance records, inventory records, charts, time sheets, or other documents.

Maintenance Worker I Minimum Qualifications :

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 2 months previous experience and/or training involving general building maintenance, general building trades, road construction/maintenance, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and/or maintenance work in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
